This is actually my favorite time of the year and a great time to get out and do a very thorough cleaning and inspection of our trucks and trailers, safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
Trucking through the United States and Canada at any time of the year it is very important to carry extra warm clothing due to the major weather patterns in different areas. I like to also make sure I have a few railroad flares with me in case of the need to start a fire if stranded on a mountain pass or slid off and needing to throw a signal as many times cell phones do not work in these areas. This is a low cost light weight life saver.
Check all of your normal pre trip and post trip items but be very thorough. Be sure to clean everything thoroughly so as not to miss any hard to see damage.
Remember that you are likely to get put in the position of saving a life at some point during your trucking career so it is advisable to carry a very well stocked first aid kit with you.
These are only a few tips and I welcome any additions to it.
Safe Hauling to all of you. Bill
